Moses,The Author

He freed his people.

     Can he free himself?

MOSES, THE AUTHOR is a humorous and poignant exploration of the man who led the Jews to the Promised Land -- a family man and a writer .

He's not happy with the Bible, but to make a better Bible he must become a better man.

A love story, with scrolls.

Few plays have tackled the Bible; fewer have done it in a way that is both funny and poignant. MOSES,THE AUTHOR presents this towering biblical figure as a tormented artist beset with writer's block as he struggles to finish the Bible while coping with both family trouble (a gay son, rocky marriage, distant mother) and God trouble (his relationship to God seems, like his marriage, to be on the rocks).

"A favorite compliment I've been paid about MOSES,THE AUTHOR," says playwright Andrew Heinze, "is that it balances comedy and gravity. The audience can laugh and cry and imagine the Bible as the product of a real author with a real family and real problems. Sadly, the Bible has often been used as a weapon. This play disarms it and allows everyone to enjoy a story about its origins. I think Moses would appreciate that."
